About the exhibition
My aim is to let the viewer immerse into the work to distract them from daily concerns.” Fleur Kooiman (2011) primarily uses photography in her artistic practice and recently she also expresses herself in drawings, collages and texts. Through these media she shows us how she experiences the world around her. With both humour and absurdity Fleur Kooiman plays with the credibility of everyday routines and the perception of our immediate surroundings. Her photos show fragments out of a story, whose elements balance between fiction and reality, and where the truth lies in the eye of the beholder. In Bergarde Galleries Fleur Kooiman shows a photo series, in which existing work is complemented by new images. De series generates the suggestion of a garden. Through minimal, staged additions and a specific light the images are entering a zone between reality and fantasy. It is not possible to clearly distinguish staged photography from registration. Although a form of alienation is part of the work, the question remains wether these everyday images are only interpreted as phantasmal by the imagination of the spectator.Fleur Kooiman (1979) lives and works in Rotterdam. She studied Fine Arts at the AKV / St. Joost Academy in Den Bosch. Since 2005 she works as a freelance photographer and makes both commissioned and autonomous work.
