Jan Worst Darkness Visible (2012)

In the Groningen studio of Jan Worst stands a large cabinet filled with clips from books and magazines. The images are a source of inspiration for his paintings. Jan Worst has a romantic interest in traces from the past. From an early age he is interested in old libraries, antique furniture and art history. This love of history is clearly visible in this green room. The backgammon table in the foreground invites the beholder to take part in the strategic game. Are the extinguished candles silent witnesses of a nocturnal game?
