Andy Warhol Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) (1966)

On view in the Bergarde Stable

Andy Warhol completed several works with the image of Jackie Kennedy. He used footage from before and after John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas (1963). The smiling photo was taken before the drama. The First Lady smiles, still ignorant of the imminent evil. The after photos show a mourning widow during the memorial services. Warhol carefully selected details with Jackie’s face to enforce the emotions.
